Key Technical Requirement for Rolling Stock
This report has been produced by the Vehicle/Vehicle Systems Interface
Committee (V/V SIC), which is facilitated by RSSB, at the request of the
Technical Strategy Leadership Group (TSLG). The report contains a wealth of
information capturing the operational experience of running trains on the GB
railway. It will provide valuable insights for designers, specifiers and
procurers of trains. ATOC took the lead in drafting the report with input being
provided by a range of stakeholders including TOCs, ROSCOs and RIA.

Rail Industry Research Strategy 2 (RIRS 2)
Development of this strategy has been led by the Department of Transport and involved a cross-industry group of rail professionals and TRL. The purpose of RIRS2 is to identify the really key issues for rail research, and in particular to:
- Help the rail industry identify and deliver the research and technology that can bring down costs and do “more for less”.
- Present what the RIRS2 Steering Group (representing the rail industry) has agreed to do about the key issues; and
- Help make the case for rail research.
In developing RIRS2, the focus has been on identifying how the industry can work together to ensure that the benefits of research are realised.
Three documents are provided, the
full report, the
appendices and a
summary presentation.
“The rail industry needs to act now to secure a sustainable future and long term value for money.”
The railway needs an up-to-date technical strategy to support its business objectives. This document takes stock of where we are and seeks senior level engagement in forming and developing that technical strategy.
In Autumn 2010, what was known as the Technical
Strategy Advisory Group sought a wide range of views on issues raised in this
document
The answers have helped the - now renewed and refocused -
Technical Strategy Leadership Group with its development of the programme and the second edition of the Rail Technical Strategy.
